These 2 campuses are in close proximity. As a member of the 3 person group, you will share call coverage for these 2 locations and provide clinical care and teaching. The Jefferson University Hospital is one of the leading academic centers in Philadelphia with a superb Department of Surgery under the leadership of Dr. Charles Yeo. Dr. Yeo is the Samuel Gross Professor of Surgery and an internationally known surgeon whose interest is pancreatic cancer. The surgical residency at Jefferson is one of the leading surgical residencies in the northeast and attracts extremely high caliber individuals. Dr. Yeo has successfully fostered the career of many academic surgeons and is a member of important surgical societies nationally and internationally. Jefferson has a fine tradition of pediatric care. It had the first ECMO program in Philadelphia. Jefferson also has an excellent perinatal group. The newborn nursery at Jefferson has been one of the largest in the Philadelphia community for a number of years. The Virtua Hospital is a large community hospital. This situation is unique in that Virtua is the home of the John Tedeschi Pediatric Institute. Dr. Tedeschi is a leader in the pediatric community and operates a practice management group that manages the practices of over 200 pediatricians. Dr. Tedeschi has been instrumental in supporting the relationship between Nemours and Virtua and was supportive of a contract signed between the 2 institutions to provide pediatric surgical coverage at Virtua Hospital. This contract lays the foundation for a very vibrant and growing practice of pediatric surgery in the community. Virtua is an institution with a large number of high risk deliveries and is a leader in perinatal medicine. In addition to these opportunities, by joining the Nemours surgeons group in the northeast, the pediatric surgeon who joins our group will be asked to participate in the regional specialty programs that are based at duPont Hospital for Children. These programs include bariatric surgery, perinatal medicine, chest wall deformity, anorectal malformations, liver and kidney transplantation and pediatric trauma.
